One year since Moon Jae-in came to power on the back of the candle light protests, the lives workers and young people have improved little under a presidency that claims to champion ‘respect for labor’. Bullying by the rich and powerful continue, as does discrimination against women and LGBT people. Historic summit meetings between the North and South Korean heads of state haven’t stopped the latter from deploying THAAD missiles. East Asia and the Korean peninsula remain as unstable as ever, under the shadow of US-China rivalry and tensions.
Marxism2018 is a forum for socialists, social and labor movement activists, radical writers, students and youths to explore answers to the pressing questions of our day: the future of the Korean peninsula after the North-South summits, the workers’ movement under Moon, the struggle against sexism, the relevance of Marx’s ideas, and many others.
We invite everyone who is inclined to question the world as it is today, full of contradictions even 200 years after Marx’s birth, to come to Marxism2018 and discuss ideas for change.
